“Today was a good day”
Head Coach Danny Wilson was pleased to see his side’s efforts in training translate into results on the pitch, after seeing his side earn a 46-25 victory over Benetton at Scotstoun.
An attacking display yielding six tries was married with a physical defensive shift, a result that sees the Warriors consolidate fourth place in Conference A barring a 45-point victory for the Dragons tomorrow afternoon.
“We knew that we needed to come out today and get that bonus-point win, and I was really pleased with how we went about our business out there,” Wilson told glasgowwarriors.org
“We wanted to play with real pace and tempo, which we did really well. We scored some excellent tries as a result, and hopefully the fans were entertained at home.
“There were still a couple of tries that were a bit soft against us today, which will be something we’ll look at and work on before we go into our Challenge Cup match next weekend. Ultimately, though, the goal was to get the win and win well. There are still a couple of bits to do, but on the whole it was a good day.”
Player of the Match TJ Ioane was one of those to cross the whitewash for the Warriors, powering over from close range for his second try in Glasgow colours.
“We put the work in this week, and I’m really proud of the boys today,” he told Premier Sports post-match.
“It’s great to see us make those improvements – to get the result and performance that we did today is great and it’ll give us a platform to kick on into European week.
“Our set-piece was a big focus this week and I thought we performed well there today.”
Attentions now turn to Friday’s trip to France and the Challenge Cup round-of-16, as Wilson’s team travel to face Montpellier under the GGL Stadium floodlights.
Whilst the match will be a tough test for the Warriors, Wilson is looking forward to welcoming back a buoyant Scotland contingent ahead of the tie.
“Next weekend is a massive match for us,” said Wilson.
“We know that it’ll be tough to go over to Montpellier and get the result, but I believe in this group of players.
“We’re also looking forward to welcoming our Scotland players back next week – they’ll be buzzing after last night’s win and rightly so. It was an excellent result for them, and it’ll give them a real boost coming back into our setup on Monday.”
