£12,000 and counting | Glasgow duo praise Warrior Nation

Whilst the defeat will sting for players and supporters alike, last night’s clash with Leinster will live in the collective memory of Glasgow Warriors for a long time to come.

With over £12,000 raised through the Plaster Scotstoun Purple initiative – including Official Kit Sponsor Leidos donating £1 for every ticket sold -, the Warrior Nation showed once again why they’re so highly regarded around both the club and the United Rugby Championship.

“It’s fantastic,” Johnny Matthews told glasgowwarriors.org.

“The charity is something that’s pretty close to a lot of the players’ hearts, and it’s been something we’ve definitely missed in the last couple of years with everything that’s been going on.

“For the supporters to raise that amount of money, it shows just how much the charity means to everyone associated with this club.”

Scrum Coach Al Dickinson echoed the sentiment of the hooker, with the total going some way to ease the pain of defeat to the defending champions.

“Anything we can do for the charity, we’re more than happy to do it,” said Dickinson.

“It’s disappointing that we didn’t get the result we wanted in order to match the occasion – Leinster are a world-class side, but we’ll take the learnings and move on.

“There are so many great causes out there, but the work the Glasgow Children’s Hospital do is truly life-changing. It really hits home, and it’s a no-brainer when we can get behind the charity like we did for the match.”

Matthews was also keen to thank the Warrior Nation on behalf of the squad, as the donations continue to come in for the club’s Official Charity Partner.

“We’ve come to expect the supporters showing just how big a part they play, and seeing everyone pack out the stands wearing purple was such a fantastic feeling,” said the hooker.

“Running out for the warm-up, you got a real sense of just how much they got on board with the whole Plaster It Purple initiative.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone that donated and got involved, and I know that all of the boys want to do the same.
