Rufus McLean

Rufus McLean signed his first professional contract in joining Glasgow Warriors in the summer of 2020, graduating from the FOSROC Scottish Rugby Academy setup.

He made his Glasgow Warriors debut in January 2021, starting on the wing in a 23-22 victory over Edinburgh at Scotstoun.

McLean then went on to record his first try for the club in just his third appearance, collecting a pass from Grant Stewart to race over unopposed against Leinster at the RDS.

Equally comfortable at full-back as he is on the wing, the former Merchiston Castle pupil caught the eye of fans and pundits alike with a series of electrifying displays in the 2020 U20 Six Nations.

McLean’s tally of three tries in four appearances included a highlight-reel worthy effort in the team’s record victory over Wales in Colwyn Bay, beating three defenders in tight space en route to the try-line.

His blend of rapid acceleration and footwork has seen him become a key component of the Scotland age-grade setups, representing his country at U18 and U20 level.

McLean’s senior Scotland debut came in October 2021, with the winger crossing for a brace of tries inside the opening 15 minutes against Tonga at BT Murrayfield.

Born in Boston, McLean combined his time in the FOSROC Scottish Rugby Academy with his studies at the University of Strathclyde.
