SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight | Tyler Stevenson

SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight | Tyler Stevenson

Glasgow Warriors is delighted to announce its first ever two-time recipient of the SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight as Tyler Stevenson.

Tyler won the award last April and was nominated again by a parent of a player he coaches.

Tyler coaches at Strathendrick Rugby Club where he works predominantly with the U14 Girls. He has been doing this for the last 5-6 years and over that time has grown the age group to around 100 girls playing regular rugby.

As well as coaching, he also has organised fundraisers, tours and socials as well as developing a good relationship between club and schools.

Speaking on being the recipient again Tyler said, “It is a great honour to receive the SP Energy Network Community Spotlight award. There are so many great kids across the clubs in the area and there is some immense talent, or the potential to excel.”

“But as we all know, times are tough. There is a lack of funding and depressing news all around. Spending time on the pitch is an amazing release not just for coaching, but for the players as well.

“Grassroots rugby is incredibly important right now and my greatest asset is time and what little resources that are available can be given over to players.

“Getting the players out running around, a space for fun, the opportunity to develop and the freedom to dream is a real privilege.”

On having Tyler being selected, John Warttig, who nominated him said, “I honestly can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award; Tyler is so committed to include and encourage everyone, he keeps things fresh with new training ideas, sessions and player awards.

“My daughter was recently awarded her 50th cap! This is growing Girls Rugby @ Strathendrick. The Under 14 girls Rock!”

Tyler will deliver the match ball at Glasgow Warriors game against Connacht at Scotstoun on Friday 24 January.
