Nine academy talents named in Scotland U20 squad

Nine Glasgow Warriors academy prospects will run out in Calvisano for Scotland U20 this Saturday evening, as Kenny Murray’s squad conclude their World Rugby U20 Championship campaign against Georgia.

Having scored a dramatic late try to seal a 22-21 victory over Ireland and earn a first win in the top tier since 2019, Murray’s men will now face the Georgians in the ninth-place playoff, with their place in next summer’s championship already secured.

Seb Stephen once again gets the nod at hooker after a try-scoring performance in Verona on Monday night, joining Ollie McKenna in the front-row for this weekend’s clash.

Dylan Cockburn retains his place in the engine room, the second-rower having been prominent at the set-piece throughout the competition.

Behind the scrum, Matthew Urwin starts once more at fly-half, with Fergus Watson – whose line breaks were instrumental in three of Scotland’s four tries in Verona last time out – lining up on the wing.

Kerr Yule will win his 25th cap for Scotland U20 to move clear at the top of the all-time appearances chart for his country at U20 level, partnering co-captain Johnny Ventisei in the midfield.

The bench sees Joe Roberts and Jake Shearer await their opportunities once again, the latter having been the man to cross for the all-important score to secure victory over the Irish.

Supporters can watch the match live on RugbyPass TV from 7.30pm on Saturday night.
