Murchie to oversee Scotland A defence
Glasgow Warriors Assistant Coach Pete Murchie will form part of the Scotland A coaching setup this November, after the club centurion was appointed as the squad’s Defence Coach for next month’s clash with Chile in Edinburgh.
The former Scotland international will serve as one of Scotland A Head Coach – and fellow former Glasgow Warrior – Pete Horne’s assistants during the upcoming international window, as Scotland A prepare for their first outing since taking on Chile in Santiago back in June 2022.
Having made 116 appearances in a Glasgow shirt during his playing career and been a part of the 2014/15 title-winning squad, Murchie added a second trophy to his CV when helping the Warriors to a famous BKT URC Grand Final win over the Vodacom Bulls earlier this year.
The 38-year-old initially cut his coaching teeth with Stade Nicois, before a successful spell at Ayr that saw him guide the Millbrae outfit to a league and cup double in 2018/19.
“I’m really pleased to have the opportunity to be involved with the Scotland A squad this November,” Murchie told glasgowwarriors.org.
“I’m looking forward to working with Pete [Horne], Stevie [Lawrie] and the rest of the management team and playing group, and I know from my own experience that Scotland A can play a huge role in developing players.
“It’s a great opportunity for players to show what they can do in a different environment, and learn from a different group. It’s also an excellent chance to play against Test match-quality opposition, on what promises to be a brilliant Test match weekend in Edinburgh.”
In addition, four further members of the Glasgow Warriors backroom team will be involved with the wider setup (pictured L-R below).
John Manson will serve as Team Manager for Scotland A, whilst Lead Performance Analyst, Greg Woolard; Clinical Manager and Lead Physiotherapist, Andrew Boag; and Senior Athletic Performance Coach, Liam Walshe, will also form part of the backroom team for the match against Chile.
