We’re back at home next month, after the Autumn Nations Series, against Scarlets on Friday 29 November, kick-off 7.35pm.
The new Scotland captain and inside centre was simply excellent today!
A first win in the regular season for Glasgow Warriors on South African soil since 2018. Today they played their hearts out, with a host of phenomenal performances from individuals.
Glasgow hold firm in defence, forcing the home team to make errors. It’s a Glasgow scrum on the DHL Stormers ten metre line.
Glasgow penalised on the ground, allowing DHL Stormers to clear their lines.
The home team try to create something, but Glasgow’s defence is holding strong.
Beautiful winding run from Johnny Matthews, then the same service from Jamie Dobie, finally a pass away from Scott Cummings into Henco Venter’s hands. The South African back rower then powers through the last defender over the line for try number four.
Jordan kicks the biggest 50/22 ever! All the way from his own 22, bouncing perfectly in space and in touch at the polar-opposite end of the pitch. Glasgow line out.
Both teams playing with intensity looking to open up space. However, a knock on from the high ball there hands Glasgow possession.
If you ever want to see the winger’s wingers try, that was it. Kyle Rowe against three defenders, using only the five metre channel, all the way from 40 metres out, puts in a perfect chip that bounces beautiful back up into his hands as he dives over the line. He was working with almost no space there whatsoever.
Tom Jordan adds the extras.
Manie Libbok opts for the posts and puts DHL Stormers back in front.
The try is not allowed, the TMO spots a forward pass between Hastings and Tuipulotu.
Adam Hastings and Sione Tuipulotu link up, with the centre breaking and making 60 metres. He has Cancelliere on his shoulder, and offloads for the Argentine to dive in for the try.
Replacement prop Joseph Dweba with an almighty turnover on Kyle Rowe, a perfect jackal.
Centre Dan du Plessis scores for the home team, after a sustained period of pressure. Glasgow were defending well, but DHL Stormers drew in so many men over a number of phases it was hard to stop that try.
Manie Libbok places the home team right on Glasgow’s five metre line. Home team line out.
Great vision from Sebastian Cancelliere. He puts in a chip into wide open space with Sione Tuipulotu on his shoulder to chase. He wins the foot race and has three metres to run in clear and score Glasgow’s second try.
Sutherland and Fagerson with an instant impact. A massive shove that turns the screw on the DHL Stormers forwards. The scrums splits and the visitor’s win the penalty. The kick reaches half way and Glasgow have the set piece advantage.
Bhatti, Talakai, Gray and Venter off. They are replaced by Rory Sutherland, Zander Fagerson, Scott Cummings, and Max Williamson
We’re all square once again in Stellenbosch.
Penalty, line out, maul, and you guessed it, Johnny Matthews try! Just minutes after the DHL Stormers scored Glasgow hit back.
Johnny Matthews with an instant response. He delivers a line out that the front forwards pass straight back to him, he then makes 40 metres taking Glasgow well into opposition territory.
The ball is moved wide and Huw Jones has space to break. A further few phases bring Glasgow up to the five metre line, and then a yellow card is handed to Manie Libbok for a deliberate knock on, from one of the passes.
Manie Libbok converts, Willemse’s try.
Damian Willemse opens the scoring. The passing from the home team there was almost impossible to defend, they were moving it fast and opening up space.
Sebastian Cancelliere kicks the ball away and he wins the chase as well. The last defender cuts him down though and after his initial misake Paul de Wet gets over the ball and wins the turnover.
A tap and go from five metres from scrum half Paul de Wet. He’s stopped on the white line and then the proceeding pass finds Glasgow hands.
Matt Fagerson is replaced by Henco Venter for a HIA check.
Glasgow can breathe a sigh of relief. The referee goes to the TMO to look at the loose ball right at the start of the attack. Brace sees that it has gone forward off of Warrick Gellant’s hand.
Out of nowhere Dan du Plessis sees the ball loose on the ground, he hoofs it upfield opening play right up. It’s then a foot race between Leonlin Zas and Huw Jones, the DHL Stormer wins the chase, picks up the ball and dives in for the opening score.
Some absolutely beautiful passing from Glasgow in tight play. Every offload meeting its intended destination. The DHL Stormers are pressing hard though.
The past few moments have been messy in open play neither team able to create anything , but it’s a Glasgow scrum back in opposition territory.
DHL Stormers stanf off Manie Libbok steps around three players and then tries to place a chip over the defense into space. The kicks good, but Libbok and Jones clash ending that attack. This could be looked at for a DHL Stormers penalty.
Gregor Brown has space, he is one-on-one with the last defender. His opposite number gets round his legs though and chops him to the ground. The lock gets the ball away though, but unfortunately it doesn’t find the support runner and lands back with the hosts.
Thankfully though Andrew Brace blows-up for Glasgow advantage and the penalty goes to the visitors.
Every time the outside centre gets the ball he breaks the line and wins yards.
Brilliant to see Tuipulotu and Jones firing like we know they can. They link up and make 40 metres. Adam Hastings them receives the offload, he tries to get the ball away to Josh McKay but the ball goes to ground.
Richie Gray comes in and tidies up, still Glasgow’s ball.
Glasgow have a scrum just inside the home team’s half. So an opportunity to build their own pressure and build an attack. George Horne delviers the ball to the forwards.
The home team are moving the ball well, and there is space opening up for winger Leonlin Zas. His support pass goes forward though and following a big shout from Glasgow, the referee agrees, that’s a forward pass.
Kyle Rowe and Josh McKay are put under some real pressure at the back there, trying to tidy up a chip through from the DHL Stormers back line. They manage to hold firm though and clear the ball to touch, easing the pressure momentarily.
A quick passing game from Glasgow sees Huw Jones make a break, he then finds George Horne in support, but the scrum half can’t open the space up any further and that attack is shut down.
A clever kicking game from Adam Hastings helps to pin the host’s back deep in their own territory. Both teams so far have been equally matched defensively, neither making any major gains in open play.
DHL Stormers have the chance to run a few phases at Glasgow’s defensive line, but this phase of play ends with an infringement and a chance for Glasgow to earn territory and kick down to halfway.
Kick-off 12:45 pm
