Match Preview | Bath | Challenge Cup Round One

Glasgow Warriors travel to Bath to play them in the first round of the EPCR Challenge Cup this Saturday.

With the weather set to get colder as the week goes on, both sides will be out to bring the heat this weekend. Glasgow Warriors are in high spirits following their win against Zebre Parma last weekend and will be looking to add another win away from home.

Set to be a good battle between the sides, if past results are anything to base predictions on, the game could go either way. Of the last three meetings between the two sides, Bath have come out on top with two wins to Glasgow’s one.  However, Glasgow Warriors have the highest winning score with a 37-10 win in 2014.

The last time the sides met was back in 2015, and while it is fair to say that Head to Head statistics give Bath the edge, the Warriors will be sure to challenge the stats and bring their all to the game.

Past Games

The 2014 win at home against Bath, saw Warriors score five tries through Mark Bennett (2), Sean Maitland, Tommy Seymour and Niko Matawalu, with Duncan Weir adding three conversions and two penalty kicks.  Bath got the first points of the game, but the Warriors retaliated hard to take a strong lead at half time and continue to extend upon that in the second half.  All five tries came from creative play and a strong desire to win at home.

In both 2012 and 2015, Bath came out on top at The Rec against Glasgow Warriors both times by only five points.  In both these games, the Warriors were first on the score sheet but Bath Rugby came back to deny them the win on their home turf.  The 2015 game saw the Warriors on top for the majority of the game, but Bath fought hard to come back and will be eager to maintain their wins at home at the weekend.

Match Officials

The referee for the game will be Adrien Marbot, and will be assisted by Evan Urruzmendi and Stéphane Crapoix. The Television Match Official will be Patrick Dellac. All the officials for this weekend are from France.
