Steyn voted McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for September

Kyle Steyn says there’s a good feeling around Scotstoun after the opening rounds of the BKT United Rugby Championship, after being voted as the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for September.

The club captain’s performances in the opening rounds of the new campaign saw him earn over 48% of the vote from the Warrior Nation, taking home the first trophy of the 2024/25 season as a result.

Having started the season with in impressive form, the winger led the league in both defenders beaten and clean breaks after the opening two rounds of action, as well as crossing for three tries in his opening two outings of the campaign.

The Scotland star crossed for a brace in the 42-10 home win over Benetton, showing his finishing prowess to touch down for a try in each half in front of the Scotstoun faithful.

Steyn was presented with his award at Hampden Park, where the captain helped to launch the club’s biggest-ever home fixture after it was announced that the opening leg of the 2024/25 1872 Cup would be played at the 52,000-capacity stadium on Glasgow’s southside.

“I’m really pleased with our start to the season,” said Steyn.

“Obviously it was gutting to not get over the line against Ulster in round one, but the way the boys bounced back against Benetton shows the character of this group, and to continue that run into October has been great as well.

“There’s been a real buzz about the building since we all came back over the summer; we’ve managed to keep the majority of the group together so everyone’s come in, worked hard and wanting to build on what we achieved last season.

“Being back at Scotstoun for the Benetton game, in particular, was brilliant. It really put a marker down for the season ahead, and to hear the supporters get behind us and help celebrate in our first competitive match since winning the league was outstanding.”

As part of the award, Steyn also receives a donation to a charity of his choice courtesy of McCrea Financial Services, with the club captain supporting the club’s Official Charity Partner, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

“The guys at the Children’s Hospital do such fantastic work, and we’re buzzing as a club to be supporting them again this year with our Fighting for our Families campaign.

“The ambition of the club to set a fundraising target of £85,000 shows how much the partnership has gone from strength to strength, and we love seeing how our club and community – including our sponsors, like McCrea Financial Services – are buying into the campaign.”
